Who wants to know what happens at the end of Harry Potter?
July 16th, 2007
Well, being the good folk that we are… we’re prepared to tell you. However, if you don’t want to know… then just don’t do the following. RSS readers, you might see the text below - sorry in advance.
Just highlight the text from the end of this sentance to the bottom of the post and you’ll see the main pointers! ![]()
- Bellatrix Lestrange kills Ron as he tries to kill her, but Ron has weakened her enough that Neville can kill her.
- Snape and Dumbledore were in a plan together to kill Voldermort. The plan involved Dumbledore’s death.
- However, Snape was in it for his own gain, so Snape gets killed by Voldermort.
- In the end, Harry and Hermione live.. and Ron obviously dies.
- 8 years later we find out that Harry and Ginny are sleeping together, and have kids.
- 19 years later their kids are worried about which class they get into (in this case, they want to avoid Slytherin).
- Hermione’s love life in the end is unknown - she’s a useless healer person
- Harry is basically a freelance auror because he doesn’t want to work for the Ministry of Magic.
These came from Bryant at AeroXP via me on Windows Live Messenger- any inaccuracies, blame him, not us! Enjoy!

What kind of man gets a Zune tattoo?
June 12th, 2007

“This kind of dude. You might say he’s one in a million — literally. Is it just us or does he already look really regretful about the decision he just made?”

I think ‘this kind of dude’ used to have no life, now he is part of the social. -PK

O2-UK Pay As You Go failure information
June 6th, 2007
It seems that O2-UK is down for the pay-as-you-go service. I tried ringing work earlier on and I couldn’t make an outside call to anyone, nor could my friend ring me. Thank God for landlines eh ![]()
O2 have told me that “they are working on the technical difficulty and affects the majority of Pay-As-You-Go users in the UK.”

Windows Live Messenger 8.5 - whoops
May 28th, 2007
Apology
OK we got it slightly wrong. Myself and my contact have both been providing Microsoft with work towards Messenger 9 (as it’s known on the inside). We didn’t know there was an 8.5. We heard rumours of an interim release but apparently they were quite wrong. We’re sorry - we messed up, we jumped the gun. The story originated from a Spanish site of which a Spanish version of the software was leaked by… a Spanish person (obviously). This has soon escalated into a debortiry or flurrious talk across the blogosphere, and something of which I now wish I had gone against instinct and followed the Dark Side. Once again, we’re sorry. We missed a big chunk of information and hopefully we’ll never do it again.

Gizmodo’s layout fuck*d up?
April 9th, 2007
I was on Gizmodo today and the layout was all over the place and messed up. On IE and yes on FF too. (Worse on IE)
A few Screenshots:
All the entries made on April 9, 2007 appear twice along with Gizmodo Banner and header adverts. The cloned entries at the bottom seem to be all jumbled up, especially on IE 7. Is this just on my PC or yours too?
Okay, back to blogging…
(Another reason to switch to Firefox? It renders well even when the layout of the site is screwed up!)

Internet Connectivity Evaluation Tool
March 29th, 2007
The Internet Connectivity Evaluation Tool checks your Internet router to see if it supports certain technologies. You can use this tool on a PC running either the Windows Vista or Windows XP operating system. If you’re planning to run Windows Vista, this tool can verify whether your existing Internet router supports advanced features, such as improved download speeds and face-to-face collaboration using Windows Meeting Space.
The tool is intended to be run from a home network behind a home Internet (NAT) router. Running this tool from behind a corporate firewall or on operating systems other than those specified above won’t produce accurate results. This tool requires administrator privileges to run.
The tests can require up to 10 minutes to complete and do not make any permanent changes to your router. For the most accurate results, your computer should be connected directly to your Internet router, using a wired connection.
Note: Although it is unlikely, testing might interrupt your Internet connectivity or cause your router to stop responding. If you require uninterrupted Internet access at this time (for example, if you are in the middle of downloading a large file, bidding on a time-sensitive Internet auction, or playing an online game), you should wait and do this testing at another time.

PS3 Launch a dud, MS does hilarious marketing moves
March 23rd, 2007
United Kingdom, France, Australia all had poor turn ups. Instead of huge queue that everyone expected outside stores before the PS3 launch only a few turned up. Is this a message to Sony from the Europeans who do not want the expensive consoles with gimped backward compatibility while the Americans and Japanese enjoy more features?
Here are a few interesting headlines:
Australian PS3 Launch Embarrassment
At midnight, about 40 PS3 buyers had arrived to collect their consoles, causing distress for the army of camera crews who turned up expecting to capture launch mayhem, while a team from 2Day FM let out bogus cheers to convince their radio listeners that a launch extravaganza was underway.
While in France..
Sony planned a big event at the Eiffel tower for the launch and were ready to hand 1000 PS3s but only 20 people were there. Same thing on the Champs Élysés where there were only 4 or 5 people.
Similarly in the UK, there are no long queue outside stores and you can get hold of a PS3 console even if you did not pre-order them.
This is a stark contrast to the US launch in November last year, where one man was shot by thieves and fights broke out over limited stock.
To make it worse, Microsoft did a few brilliant and hilarious marketing moves that are getting quite a few positive comments on the internet.
At the PLAYSTATION 3 launch event in Paris, Microsoft found an opportunity to do a little guerilla marketing by sending French gamers queueing up for a PS3 a kind reminder via boat. You can check the video here, but don’t forget to view the… splendor of the midnight launch event over at Jeux-France. They have loads of shots of the, um, festivities.
Microsoft NZ Tease Sony, With Beer!
To commemorate the Xbox 360’s 1st birthday in NZ, the good people at DB sent a special present consisting of many a beer bottle to GamePlanet’s Auckland store. To be precise, $480-worth of beer, which incidentally is the exact price difference between the Xbox 360 (RRP$719.95) and the PLAYSTATION 3 ($1199.95).
Thumbs up to Microsoft on this one…

Exclusive: Windows Home Server screenshots
February 24th, 2007

Here at Live and Beyond, we respect NDA’s (Non-Disclosure Agreements) and lets make a point of this by not uploading these files ourselves. We’re not going to post any screenshots of Windows Home Server on this website, nor are we going to leak any information about it.
However, we have had a very happy breakthrough because it doesn’t say anywhere we’re not allowed to point people to the right direction. One reader (dharma14) emailed in after uploading a whole shed load of Windows Home Server screenshots to flickr. As it is going into public beta soon, we thought we’d shed some light into what it looks like.
