There are two new websites we feel you should know about, which seem to be targeted at British users in the UK. The first is www.newhotmail.co.uk which tells you a bit more about Windows Live Hotmail and some of the history to it. You can also update your Hotmail to the new interface with all the jam packed new features of the Windows Live Hotmail product as well.

The second one is www.emailbritain.co.uk which is a promotional site for Windows Live Hotmail, where as the website states, “is creating the first ever national archive of emails in conjunction with the British Library. The Email Britain book, recording a snapshot of British life by email, will be permanently archived for generations to come.” So submit your emails to them and have them listed in the British Library Email book.

Hotmail has been around for… 6, 7 years… oh for a bloody long time, but the time has come at long last! Windows Live Hotmail has replaced MSN Hotmail for the good of the good of the electronic mail community. But never fear! All the old email addresses being hotmail.com and hotmail.co.** with the two asterisks indicating the country domain, uk for the United Kingdom, jp for Japan, nz for New Zealand and so forth - they stick and you’ll always be able to use them from now on.

Windows Live Hotmail will be rolling out around about now. Those who want to stick with some reference to the old Hotmail style design… you can’t, but you can use the “Light client” which lets you browse through your messages in the old sluggish way that Hotmail users are used to.

“Windows Live Mail” will be the new name of Windows Live Mail desktop, and Windows Mail and Outlook Express are being phased out. Don’t worry, it’ll be alright for you new users - change is good sometimes :)

There is rumor going round internally that Windows Live Mail has been updated. At the moment, Windows Live Mail (and will be soon known as Live Hotmail) is currently down and nobody seems to have access to it. But is rumor true and will we get to see a new milestone of this popular web based email?

You’ll find out soon enough :)

Windows Live Hotmail updated

February 27th, 2007

Only a small update for Windows Live Hotmail but it seems to have gone unnoticed by most people. To reflect that Live Hotmail is near completion, the beta tags in the address of the product have gone and is now simplified:

New: http://mail.live.com/mail/mail.aspx

Windows Live Hotmail is expected out soon, but is subject to last minute changes, as Microsoft products famously have always seemed to :)

The Get Live website has opened up for Windows Live Hotmail and its impending release. Windows Live Hotmail is expected to be released any day now. First time users can now see the advantages of Hotmail by checking out the new website.

Windows Live Hotmail, is the definate final name of the new product that replaces the MSN Hotmail product. It’s still not out in the open yet and the user interface will not be updated for a while, and Windows Live Hotmail is still not ready for release.

First there was Kahuna, then it was just “Mail”, then Windows Live Mail, but now it is absolutely set in stone - Windows Live Hotmail is the new product name for the MSN Hotmail replacement.

The MailCall team have updated their blog - go and check it out.

As we were expected, Windows Live Mail was upgraded to M9 (Milestone 9) last night. Some changes include:

  • Much faster loading and advanced Firefox compatibiity (works fully in Firefox 2)
  • The Classic Mode will be the default view from Hotmail users - brand new users won’t be taken to the fully AJAX’d page but to the Classic interface for “ease-of-use” purposes.
  • A new Today page rolls out, including what would be on your Today page in Windows Live Messenger.
  • Recent Updates now added as a tabbed page on the Today page allowing you to switch to what’s changed (blogs, contacts and newsletters etc.)
  • Search bar at the top of the page updated and tweaked slightly for the other themes.
  • New icons added to the right click menus, and generally the right click menus have been added and updated.
  • In Classic view, the top menu bar with “New, Reply, Forward and Delete” have been added to the bottom of each message for ease-of-use for longer messages.
