Apple delays OS X Leopard’s launch, blames Vista!
March 24th, 2007
You got to be kidding me. Did I just read that right?
It is true, according to TG Daily :
“Apple is expected to launch its next generation Leopard operating system (OS) in April, but according to industry sources, the release of the new OS will be postponed to October to allow Apple to make Leopard support Windows Vista through an integrated version of its Boot Camp software.
The sources pointed out that the launch delay is not due to software design problems with Leopard but instead is attributed to Apple’s plan to have its new OS support Windows Vista through an integrated version of Boot Camp.”
Is Apple just trying to BS? Why can it not launch Leopard and then release a patch later on that allows Vista to run on Boot Camp? It is clearly Apple’s fault and not Microsoft’s!
Update: Comments here and elsewhere suggest that the original article on DigiTimes where this information originated from may be inaccurate. Thanks all.

Surprise, Microsoft Listed as Most Secure OS
March 22nd, 2007
Microsoft is frequently dinged for having insecure products, with security holes and vulnerabilities. But Symantec, no friend of Microsoft, said in its latest research report that when it comes to widely-used operating systems, Microsoft is doing better overall than its leading commercial competitors.
The information was a part of Symantec’s 11th Internet Security Threat Report. The report, released this week, covered a huge range of security and vulnerability issues over the last six months of 2006, including operating systems.

Product 7 - A secret Apple Product for $99,999.99?
March 5th, 2007
I came across an item on Amazon. It cost $99,999.99 and weighs 13 pounds. There is no image of this product and they do not have it in stock right now. There is one customer review though. I think it is a hi-spec computer for designers. What do you think? Leave a comment if you know anything about this mysterious ‘Product 7′.

30GB iPod Sells for $1,525 : eBay bidder fake or hacked?
February 22nd, 2007
A normal 30GB iPod selling for $1,525? Diamonds not included!

“This iPod is brand new, the box has been opened but the iPod has not been unwrapped from the plastic or turned on, and all accessories are included and unopened. This is a brand new iPod Video 30GB (not refurbished or second) .”
Picking up the story from TechEBlog, I decided to have a look at the Auction Page. The winning bidder is leah0811. This Brit has a good positive feedback score of 92.6%. Nothing out of the oridnary you may say but if you look at the feedback history there is activity till December 2006 with good positive feedback. There is no activity or feedback in the month of Januray 2007 but by Febuary there is a lot of activity and feedback, all of which are negative.
Here are some of the negative feedbacks from the bidder’s page:
“FAKE BIDDER AVOID!!!!”
“Complete bloody scammer. Cocked up my auction by overbibdding. P*ss off.”
“Fraudulant!!! Bidded ridiculous offer and never paid and never heard from them”
This got me thinking, why would someone with a really good feedback score and history go berserk in Feb. with no activity in Jan.? I think this person’s eBay account was hacked and is now being used to place fake bids all over.
What do you think?
Fake bidder or a fake bidding hacked account?

Apple Challenges Bloggers Over iPhone Screenshots
January 14th, 2007
As written on OmniNerd by tomtolman…
“Since the iPhone announcement earlier this week, Apple has enjoyed a massive wave of free publicity from bloggers. Engadget’s live reporting alone had 10 million page views.
Turns out Apple is not happy about all the publicity. Someone has created a skin for Windows Mobile phones that looks very similar to the new iPhone user interface. Shortly after Paul O’Brian posted a link on an xda-developer forum to the interface, he got a cease and desist letter from Apple’s lawyers. The lawyers warn, “The icons and screenshot displayed on your website are copyrighted by Apple, and copyright law explicitly prohibits unauthorized display and distribution of copyrighted works. Apple therefore demands that you remove this screenshot from your website…”
Michelle Arrington of TechCrunch has accused Apple of going after the wrong person, “If Apple wants to go after the guy that made the Windows Mobile skin that looks like the iPhone, fine. But to bully bloggers who are simply reporting on this is another matter.” Arrington speaks from personal experience. In August Apple challenged him for embedding a YouTube video link to Mac OS X 10.5. In addition, Apple’s challenge raises a question if bloggers are permitted to post screenshots of the iPhone as thousands have done without concern from Apple’s lawyers. This news comes as Cisco is suing Apple for using the iPhone name which they claim to have trademarked in 2000.”
pr0xy k1ll3r (LiveandBeyond.com):
“I don’t think Apple is winning any goodwill by doing this. They do have the right to be protective about their product but not in this manner. Why not send a cease and desist letter to Google, as Google does link these blogs through it’s search engine?
Go after the creator of the Skin and ask him politely to remove it and not bully or harass bloggers who talk about or link it. Can these bloggers dissolve the product that is already uploaded on a server they have no control on?
Shame Apple.. Shame!”
